warning will robinson
by Loraine Ritchey

At my time of life, when you have more days behind you than in front of you – one day is nothing to waste. I had planned to go down to the Port Fest, relax on the hammock and finally finish a book, deal with more travel items and take the Appledore boat trip, even if the rest of the “scrooges” in my family – ( who regularly go out on the lake) didn’t want to come along.

Well best laid plans of mice, men and ME!

It started Friday afternoon, checking my Yahoo email (and I have at least 6 different accounts) -no matter which account I tried to access – I was instantly “redirected” and my spyware would not “allow” the site to which I was being redirected to open (thankfully).

What was this all about? I am a complete “point and click” when it comes to computers. For 13 years I have fumbled and fudged my way through the language, the “dos and dat “. I have extra hard drives, plug ins, usb’s floppy discs, Cd Roms ( -another Rom I don’t understand) . I am just a neophyte that treads very carefully through the world wide web and what may lurk!

Therefore I have all recommended and up to date, virus ware, mal ware, spyware, adware , greyware .

So when this happened I immediately did a “systems check and scan “ on everything .I was clean ……( good to know since the den hasn’t airconditioning and I was definitely feeling less than “sweet smelling”- however the air though was turning blue every so often.

Right NOT ME and MY computer that is the problem so off to YAHOO HELP and NOPE not an answer not a response at all….. My Spysweeper kept denying the access to this redirected site but WHY was this happening so Off to my Trend Micro Support. whose scan was also showing I was “clean” explaining to them the situation and that if they expected me to do anything they would need to explain in “real words” and as if they would to someone who was 4 years old.

Trend Micro responded quickly ( Joan initially ) and walked me through hours of scanning and off site scanning dumping this – dumping that all the while I am trembling that I will push the wrong key ( you know me and TYPO’s!!)

I took a break for a couple of hours headed down to Port Fest Friday night whilst the “scan” was doing its thing. Nada, nothing no problems found but I still couldn’t get onto to Yahoo.

Six am Saturday , whilst waiting for an answer to my latest email to Joan -who became Steve- I started researching this problem YEA! I was not alone.

Apparently, whatever this is, effects Yahoo and E-Bay and I didn’t understand one word of the language used to fix the problem…… Oh Boy!!!

I never made it out of pajamas Saturday , I was cleaning and booting and re booting and Hi Jacking and using a language that made no sense what so ever. By 11 p.m. I realized I had lost a day, took a shower ( which was much needed) clean jammies and went to bed.

Sunday morning I had more instructions this time Steve had morphed into Rachelle .-turn off this and that , safe mode, apply run Hi Jack This

Trend Micro HijackThis is a free utility that generates an in-depth report of registry and file settings from your computer. HijackThis makes no separation between safe and unsafe settings in its scan results giving you the ability to selectively remove items from your machine. In addition to this scan and remove capability HijackThis comes with several tools useful in manually removing malware from a computer

(Oh! my I had visions of blank grey screens ME!!! selectively deleting )
and get rid of three files Oh dear- I was Nervous Nellie personafied

I followed the instructions after a couple of hesitant dry runs…..and fingers crossed…. I can once again access Yahoo….I am still waiting to hear WHY though I had to lose a day .
