Paula’s Perspective- LNWC

After all the posts and discussions on the blogs this week I expected an “interesting” evening for the Lorain Neighborhood Watch Council.

meeting

It began with the announcement that the Council would no longer exist, the new organization would consist of districts with Coordinators reporting to the Lieutenant and Sergeant responsible for the Neighborhood Watch Group.

I was happy to hear that Sergeant Les Palmer (aka CRO Palmer) will still be involved.

palmer SGT Palmer

I have heard many sing the praises of Sergeant Palmer and his help in establishing the Neighborhood Watches and his dedication to the effort.

We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to listen to one of our 16 dispatchers speak tonight. I can’t say enough about the dedication and work these women do for our city. Can you imagine sitting in a cave with 3 phones in front of you, 7-10 squad cars out in the field and 3 other lines that you are responsible for?

I can talk and walk at the same time, but talk to 2 or more people at once, coordinate an emergency, be respectful, calm and orchestrate a stressful/life threatening situation????

dispatcher

After answering an hours worth of questions the dispatcher and sergeant turned the meeting back to Mr. Killinger to discuss the activities coming in the next few months.
Please watch for further updates and events. http://www.loraincounty.com/lnwc/

We were told at the beginning of the meeting the Sustain Lorain speakers would be AFTER the meeting was over. (To separate Politics from the business at hand) and anyone not interested may leave and not be part of a “captured” audience.

But guess what, NOBODY FROM SUSTAIN LORAIN SHOWED UP!!!
The opportunity was there, we could have stayed and had our questions answered, the Sustain Lorain group could have reached out and touched the people who are active in protecting and care about their city, (after the meeting of course) but I heard there was a Union (AFL/CIO) meeting that they were attending.

Opportunity, it only knocks once.
