BP -does it stand for Bishop, Priest, British Petroleum or Bloody Pathetic?

The other day I received a comment (ah! those comments) of course from a “nom de plume” from the Indiana State Dept of Education server. He/she/it basically took me to task for blaming my troubles ( re the loss of closure and the legal “cremainsnapping of our son” ) on the “institution” of the Roman Catholic Church .I tested the email it came back false so I didn’t bother to approve the comment.

I didn’t blame the“institution” of the Roman Catholic Church just some of the “holier than thou types that profess to be believers,

and how the enabling of the actions of the few?? by employees of the “institution” has effected my little part of the world.

WHY shouldn’t I hold the “employer responsible for the action of the employees, whether it is the business of religion or oil?

I have been very disappointed in the actions of Bishops , priests and parishioners and also of BP! Although a multi national corporation , I would have hoped that as once the B stood for British I held them to a higher standard. Sorry BP, but there you have it. You have let the side down!

And now I am reading :

Al-Megrahi, 57, is the only person convicted of carrying out the 1988 bombing of a U.S. airliner over Lockerbie, Scotland, that killed 270 people.

He was released on compassionate grounds by the Scottish government after doctors said he was likely just months from death. Nearly a year later, he remains alive.

BP signed a $900 million exploration agreement with Libya in May 2007, the same month that Britain and Libya signed an agreement that paved the way for al-Megrahi’s release from a Scottish prison.

BP has admitted that it lobbied the British government over a prisoner transfer deal with Libya in late 2007, but denied playing any role in the actual decision to release al-Megrahi nearly two years later.

Todays news has the headline”
BP admits ‘lobbying UK over Libya prisoner transfer scheme but not Lockerbie bomber’

Well BP I hope you didn’t have an oil(y) palm extended with regard to releasing this person who hopefully will end up as his own form of fossil fuel in the near future.

BP let me tell you a bit about that tragic day and how it touched this little family in Lorain ,Ohio. I was so worried, incredulous and bloody scared at the time but I would never have thought that 20 years later I would still be feeling anger but at a “corporation”

Granted it was nothing compared to the horrific happenings that devastated a community and many many families, we were also due to fly out of the USA a few hours after the disaster to London for Christmas that December 1988.

We went to the airport with mixed feelings. The children Nikki 12 and Chris 8 were terrified that they would be blown up. They looked suspiciously at every one as we boarded the big 747- just like the one that ended up blown out of the sky.

We arrived safely in London, the news was grim for those on the plane and the town of Lockerbie, Scotland

Unfortunately, London wasn’t our only scheduled part of the vacation we were heading on to Morocco for 8 days. Thousands of dollars had been paid for the vacation,

No we couldn’t get our money back just because we were uncomfortable with going and the State Dept said Morocco was OK.

So we went ! As you know we were heading into a very troubled area. Feelings against the Americans were running high there was distrust everywhere.

We were booked into a French Hotel, since I spoke a little French I did all the talking. The Americans in our party were told to shut up and look German ( the Arab population had an affinity for the Germans). Being an American that week was not a popular thing to be , as evidenced by the conversations at the surrounding dinner tables, being English was only slightly better. Luckily my two blonde children were thought to be German. I think the fact my husband had a sort of tweed Tyrol hat on most days and was carrying around the book he was reading that had to do with Germany in World War Two and had a swastika on the front endeared him to the staff. All I know was that he never paid for a beer the wholetime he had that book.

We did not go out of the hotel unless escorted by our private guides. It was the most awful tense and stressful time as far as traveling I have ever been through. And I have been through some Vacations from Hell that could fill the pages of Horror Tales of Travel Abroad.

I will write more about the “road to Morocco” in a future post.

However, once again an “institution” or corporation out of greed possibly or not having a real plan of action has effected the lives in this country in the most disastrous fashion. And now they seemingly have the audacity and lacking any respect for those who lost their lives in 1988 allegedly petitioned a government to release the cause of so much horror and heartaches so they can pump more crude out of the ground. I hope this isn’t the case and there is still “British ideals” in BP

Don’t mean to sound negative, but this entire BP “thing” has really made me think. I hold no ill feelings toward the Britsh people, it’s the business people who have the black eye an should be hiding their faces. First with the oil in the gulf: I find it amazing that things have gone so wrong for so long. Where are the experts? All I’ve heard about is the “relief” well that will solve all the “problems”. That time is coming closer and it seems that will be the magic “fix” as was predicted. Leads one to believe that you cannot believe business people who only want things to come out the way THEY predict. They have done wrong by the environment, the people and the animals, all in thename of BP and we are trying. Don’t see any relief for any of the above named victims.

As for the release of the “bomber”. Everything seems to revolve around business and what is good for them; the heck with anything else. As long as “they keep making money for the company, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” and forget about everyone else.

Thanks for letting me vent, you are a dear.

    Love and hugs,

BP has had quite a history regarding its involvement in world affairs.

Grammy I agree and I am sick of it it is about money as always …….. I remember when the WMD and Iraq a friend and I were talking about it and I really really really trusted the British Government to be on the up and up…..more so than the American BOY what a jerk I was.. and I said to him Oh no there has to be the British people would never let their government get away with such a thing..( lying about the WMD) .. How stupid and naive was I .. I guess because so many of my kith and kin fought for King and Country and they were my role models and all my life I have been surrounded by good people who put others first….and the ideals of a country first. even before their lives .. and to find out those things are meaningless to those that hold the “positions” of trust. wellllll

Peter, Yes so I am finding out………more and more each day…….

Okay…. let’s take a trip back down “memory lane”. The Blair Government nearly fell because of the Downing Street Memos (particularly the “Rickett’s memo”).

It took a petition with about 500,000 signatures to get the US Press to cover the Downing Street Memos.

Prior to that, the US Press had been reporting dishonestly that Blair’s Government was on shaky ground because off “rebellious Muslim MPs within the Labour Party”….

In Canada… when the “ramping up” to war in Iraq was occurring, SKY News(Canadian & UK version of Conservative/Tory FOX NEWS in US) had to address the BP & CIA overthrow of the democratically-elected Mossadegh Government in Iran.. if only to dismiss/distinguish it from Iraq involvement.

FOX never talked about the Iranian overthrow of the Mossadegh Government because it is never mentioned.

Thomas Skoch of the Morning Journal talked about there only being 4 “press councils” as a “validation” for the US News Media.

I don’t believe he could truly be that big of a dope… I know he deletes my posts when I point out that most/all of his Circulation Department’s Drivers who use their autos to deliver routes are cheating on their taxes by not carrying “commercial insurance” yet still taking the full IRS Mileage Deduction… Julie Wallace of the CT does the same thing.

Every Newspaper in America does it.

That’s comical… because the “press council” hypocrisy has these newspapers commenting on DRUNK Lorain Law Directors and moralizing about them and corrupt politicians…

… yet they themselves would have NO DELIVERY DRIVERS if this IRS Tax Fraud was not occurring.

I told both him and Julie Wallace they should suspend editorial column creation until their Circulation Mangers can verify 100% compliance with the “commercial insurance” requirement.

They deleted those posts too and they still hypocritically moralize to others and endorse candidates.

There is no economical way to deliver a newspaper using your own auto… just like there is no economical way to deliver a pizza using your own auto.

That’s right… Nationwide there are almost no pizza drivers carrying “commercial insurance”. Tom Monaghan (Dominos) and Papa John Schnatter having themselves portrayed as swell guys and members of their communities… yet their empires were built at the expense of their competitors whose morals refused to allow themselves to break the law.

Tom Skoch deleted that too when the new Pizza Hut opened on the far west side of Lorain.

We have a PROPAGANDA MINISTRY in ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX, CBC & BBC… they’re not News Organizations.

Morning Journal is the last newspaper that should be moralizing to anyone about anything.

I’d like to confront Thomas Skoch in this woman’s Web Log here… he made the comments about the “Press Councils” to Lorraine; he should defend them here by someone who could give him the Internet equivalent of a “wedgie” before Lorraine, Grammy, Mike and Paula… It is “antithetical” to “good journalism” for him to have his finger on the “delete button”

Hey, Tommy boy….Care to talk to me in front of Lorraine, Grammy, Paula Tobias where you can’t delete any postings.

We could start off with “commercial insurance”, the CDC & vaccines, the USS Liberty murders and then I show you what Julie Wallace fled from regarding the conduct of a MOSSAD Agent on 9/11/2001.

Chief Medders and his wife lost their son in a phony war on terror, Tom… I have something I want you to VETT and then present to a “press council”… Julie Wallace and Andrew Young can help you out explain why you missed these stories ( a real journalistic brain trust”)

We could invite that Tea Party candidate also to participate… the one who said Columbus or Washington needed an “outsider”….

Tom Skoch is getting ready to skeedaddle

    Adios, Tommy
    Adioa, Julie

I think it was a petiton with 250,000 signatures.. I’ll double check

  • 7. Loraine Ritchey  |  July 20, 2010 at 10:23 am

Well Tom only commented once on this blog……. I don’t think he will comment…… in fact he ignored me just a few days ago ๐Ÿ™‚ with regard to a questin of non coverage about something .. I tend to get ignored a lot when asking uncomforatble questions ๐Ÿ˜‰ but you never know.

in the meantime your comment is posted here although I have to tell you that most of the readership of this blog is over 70 percent “outside Lorain” and Ohio as a matter of fact.. Howver it does enjoy some really prominent readers ๐Ÿ™‚

Off topic – but have you noticed the Community Media Lab experiment for the Morning Journal is not as exciting as Mr. Skoch and his bosses publicize? As for the Ben Franklin project that is a way to get people to do the work for free as well.

Oh Oh BYe BYe Tony – you knew this was going to happen

BP chief Tony Hayward ‘negotiating exit deal’
