I have a question for you–have you ever heard of the Ebenezer Gregg house ? I’ve been trying to figure out if it was torn down or not! It was supposed to be at the corner of Idaho and E. Erie in 1959—since then the only house torn down is where the apartments now are (that someone mentioned in a comment on your blog). But my research shows the widow and some other Gregg’s living on the lake side, at a few locations including the white house next door (east) of the old Convenient

Can you help??? and check out Daniel’s Blog – good stuff!!!!

seems like I read someplace the article about the controvery of the house that was torn down for those apts. at that location- I think there was a photo of the house to be torn down and I thought that was it. I can’t remember if the article was at the library in the research files or at the Moore House. Sorry- if I have time I will try to check also. Perhaps the old city directories at the library will offer a clue.

It was at that corner and it was torn down early 1960’s, my mom remembers the house as a young woman, it is where the apartments now stand, rumor has it that Abe Lincoln stayed there.

Given some of the other “corner houses” in this general vicinity, it makes me wonder what else has been torn down to make way for businesses and other apartment buildings, like the one between Illinois & Indiana.
Imagine what a beautiful, history-rich city this would be if everybody who wanted to buy one of these old houses and restore it, could and did. Same with the businesses. I wish LCH&D would have put their millions into the Broadway Building instead of GP.
