Lorain City Schools- The meeting- they said…

Please accept my apologies for the tardiness of this post. I met with Superintendent Atkinson, Mr. Stewart, Mr. De Nicola, Mr. Woods, Ms Sanchez, Ms Tansy on December 6th, 2010 , Charleston Center in regard to my public records request.

Unfortunately I had to go for oral surgery the next afternoon ( and therein lies another tale). The surgery did not go well and the next weeks have found me dealing with the resulting problems from that surgery.

Readers will recall that I had questions as to the PO’s for the meeting at Sawmill Creek and also the expenditure in that same week for a “speaker” .

Let me preface by saying there was nothing illegal with regard to these expenditures. I personally thought they were unwise, naive and coming from the perspective of a taxpayer – wasteful, hence my request for confirmation and explanation.

I received the answers to my public records request within the 10 days as well as the meeting which lasted nearly three hours.

I will be breaking the information and conclusions I have drawn in at least three maybe four parts.

Firstly let us start with the questions as to the Sawmill Creek – Leadership Retreat August 2010:

ANS: 50

and for how many nights,
ANS: 2 nights

ANS: 6 meals

the cost of “the family day” pool side barbecue?
ANS :$1,860.55

The account(s) from which the PO’s of this retreat was paid.
ANS: Title 1 Sub A School Improvement. This is a federal grant and is restricted to Professional Development to improve academic achievement for schools.

Cost of the retreat 2010= $19.796.50

How much money is left in the grant if any?

To be continued
