What Price Publicity- Lorain?????

([intransitive] informal to behave in an angry, excited, or emotional way)

English readers will remember the old Carry On films ( movies) I feel like I am in the middle of one of those

Carry On Media !

We have the News of the World in bed with politicians and the police and “carrying on” until they reached a tipping point of going beyond the pale –
now a media empire is under attack What a CARRY ON!

Games have been played in the media and using the media probably since the first “news” was published by Carolus

The German-language Relation aller Fürnemmen und gedenckwürdigen Historien, printed from 1605 onwards by Johann Carolus in Strasbourg, is often recognized as the first newspaper.

We have newspapers routinely in this country being used in court cases by attorneys because the “printed word” carries weight .

On-line not so much- as I have experienced with then Lorain Mayor Foltin and the Ford issue as he wrote for “Open Mic” in the Plain Dealer words can be can be changed -(decidedly had to rethink trust in the “word” on-line after that happenstance )

Readers rely upon the integrity of the hosting news media – trust in integrity. Integrity a powerful word and it works both ways both in reporting the news and also by those that “source the news”.

Locally our news media has been used to get the word out on many things some positive some not so positive. But I worry, they too may have been used in the cart before the horse aspect of the Administration that is the government of Lorain of late –

Is the Administration of Lorain using the media and putting the cart before the horse to further their platform? Are they letting the situation first play out in the local media –

.Lorain utility director suspended over cloudy drinking water, vows fight

The accusation of wrong doing was in the media quicker than you could say “stop presses’ . ( well now they just “break the news” on-line but you get my point.

People left, lost their jobs, had their professional reputations besmirched only to have weeks later the same accusatory people say:

Lorain utilities chief Corey Timko will not be punished
Three people had their names AND professional ability called into question in many forums and on-line articles that picked up the story. And then………

Lorain Service Director Robert Gilchrist rescinded and expunged disciplinary action against Utilities Director Corey Timko, who earlier this year had a 30-day suspension due to water turbidity in April

Gilchrist acted reasonably to discipline Timko when it appeared the sludge levels were the cause of the turbidity, Riley said.

However, WHEN MORE INFORMATION BECAME AVAILABLE, it became clear the sludge was not related to the water cloudiness,

(Note: emphasis mine) -WHEN MORE INFORMATION BECAME AVAILABLE.. errrrr shouldn’t decisions like this be made after all information pertaining to the situation is gathered- before someone else loses their job or quits and has their abilities called into question … just a thought)

How do you expunge the damage done because they didn’t have ALL the information? Mr. Gilchrist, as he leaves for a more lucrative position with Lorain County Community Action Agency can walk away but he has his own media baggage to “carry on” Complaint alleges Gilchrist of voter fraud

And now the next “CARRY ON LORAIN “ is the Administration “using the power of the press ” to further cause turbidity on the political waters?

original art work source ““This legislation is an attempt to cover up Mayor Krasienko

Much has been written with regard to Mayor Krasienko’s accusation concerning Auditor Mantini

“It’s come to my attention that a misappropriation of funds by the auditor MAY HAVE occurred, along with tampering with public documents,” Krasienko said. “This legislation is an attempt to cover up a conspired action by Auditor Mantini and Councilman Given. I am publicly requesting the law director to begin a formal criminal inquiry and forward his findings.”

Note emphasis mine. MAY HAVE
not – HE DID but MAY HAVE- and for this we have people’s integrity and professional capabilities besmirched on a MAY HAVE-

There have been a plethora of reports – back story- seems Mayor Krasienko had already gone to the Law Director Riley and discussed this situation , there had already been a meeting with this regard.

Given noted Krasienko had gone to Riley with the accusations about THREE WEEKS AGO and questioned why Krasienko hadn’t gone to police. Riley acknowledged after the meeting that he had spoken with Krasienko and Mantini about the matter and said his office would not investigate the allegations. Riley said Krasienko should go to police if he wants to pursue the matter

This was no “surprise” – one avenue didn’t pan out for the Administration so another avenue to discredit it seems on a MAY HAVE

This is seemingly a political press power play in my opinion and not worthy of the Office of the Mayor of Lorain.

We elect and hire professionals “supposedly” – the tax payers ( as with the CRA fiasco – which should have been handled by those same professionals ( a stance I maintained from the very beginning) before it cost resputations and millions of dollars.
Handling these situations is what you are paid to do- grandstanding in the media and putting the cart before the horse is NOT what we elect and pay you to do!

The news media is not there to do YOUR JOBS for you and our elected and paid professionals would do well to remember that!

So stop this farce- CARRY ON LORAIN – you may have put yourself in the “entertainment industry ” with the Pipe Yard BUT THE COMEDY OF ERRORS AT LORAIN CITY’S SEAT OF GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE PUBLIC THEATRE WE NEED.

You speak with such power and truth. When I was studying political science in college, we were warned to be cautious when we spoke. Be sure to check ALL the “facts” before putting them out to be aired in public. To besmirch someone’s good name is the same as stealing. (You are stealing their good name. We may not have much, but our name is something we need to protect.) Mayor K had best watch himself, Pinocchio could turn into a true story for him.

Exactly which is why you will always find links, data documentation and witness availability when I write about my personal situation with the Lombardis and Chris – stealing ones good name is as bad as stealing ones closure in my book……..

As for the political game playing and not just at City Hall but everywhere I am sick to death of it……..

The good people of Lorain would do well to take a few Mondays and go to City Hall and sit in on the City Council meetings. Such “entertainment” is priceless!

I believe that the “viewing public” is going to become unintended spectators in watching a train wreck. As someone forgot to pack a golden parachute for the outgoing mayor, some would rather bite off their own noses to spite their own face.

They are playing this game over relative peanuts.

If squabbling over 30 grand out of a 30 some million dollar budget is considered “news” and worth fighting about, what is the real story that we are being distracted from?

According to the media that was given the info from the current administration, Lorain’s budget is balanced with lots of money left over for the next administration that comes in…

Was that information “true”? Surely if the budget was balanced and there is extra money, what is the problem just paying the bills like John Q public is expected to do when there is a bill that should be paid…..

I gonna crawl back under my rock where it is safe…

Good points Brian…………. under that rock might seems safe but watch out of sink holes 🙂

If more people in this town understood how their gov’t operated, they would demand an immediate change. All that’s missing from the city council meetings is the calliope music and cotton candy.

Tony is a fine one to talk about “conspired actions”. What about the Board of Control? Isn’t that where he gets together with his co-conspirators to decide how to spend our money and which one of their buddies to spend it with?

  • 7. Loraine Ritchey  |  July 24, 2011 at 10:42 am

Hi Susie th BOC has been around through other administrations Foltin and Miller also used it “well” or to their advantage. It is supposed to act as “check” and balance BUT has from time to time acted like a blank check for pet projects and people ..there is a dollar amount ceiling- not sure if it is still the same as I have lost touch with such things in the last couple of years……

  • 8. Peter Potamus  |  July 24, 2011 at 1:49 pm

If more people in this town understood how their gov’t operated, they would demand an immediate change.

Issue already settled, Susie… with the two-parent working household foisted upon us the energy to involve one’s family within the arena of “publicly policy formation” has largely been sapped

All that’s missing from the city council meetings is the calliope music and cotton candy.”…..

…and the citizenry, Susie… they’re missing also…. Loraine spoke of a city meeting where more bureaucrats/”elected officials” were seated at the dais/lectern than there were attendees sitting in the audience.

Getting people to involve themselves has always been a tough coconut to crack… with the two-parent working household it becomes even tougher

  • 9. Susie  |  July 24, 2011 at 1:52 pm

As for Brian’s question”…what is the real story that we are being distracted from?”

Hmm…why don’t you ask the city how that water line project at 28th & Broadway is going? I’m hearing that when the contractor hit a line last week and it blew, our reserves and water tower took a critical hit.

  • 10. Loraine Ritchey  |  July 24, 2011 at 2:39 pm

Peter. you may have a point however I also believe the “burn out” factor trying to make a change and the bandwagon politicians jump aboard get elected and then they do exactly what their predecessors have done.

People rallied and got involved ion 2007 with regard to LCS- Brian Hazelett from WoM led the way and people followed…. .there was a change in Admin a change in the BOE and 4 years later??????? the only change is more of the change from our pockets…….
I am as jaded and depressed and ” let someone else do it” as the rest because citizens only have a voice when they want us to have a voice….. sorry I shouldn’t be posting my “soul and will” is taking a beating this week……. I am fighting a losing battle with logical part of my brain… the raw emotion of grief is winning ………….

  • 11. Peter Potamus  |  July 24, 2011 at 6:55 pm

.. because citizens only have a voice when they want us to have a voice….. “

That is what the late comedian, George Carlin stated……

..he was right/correct, in the context of the current paradigm within the western democracies;wrong/incorrect in the context of what would be called an “expansive mental paradigm”.

There are certain discrete/isolated instances where one’s voice can’t be silenced and where the audience is willing to listen..go to a mayor’s court for example and see how many people jump on the bandwagon when you can successfully point out that they are being “singled out” for prosecution.

In the coming weeks, I will demonstrate a low-energy method to deliver $10 million in IRS CID Reward Money to be divided among Lorain County Safety Forces.

    A) The County Safety Forces will get 37.5% (about $10 million)

B)I will get 37.5% for myself

C)The attorneys in St. Louis, MO who will negotiate on our behalf and do the subsequent paperwork will get 25%

Why will it be the greatest story never to be told?
You’ll all see for yourselves whether it fizzles out or bears fruit.

George Carlin was “correct” but in the presence of an expansive mental paradigm that requires almost no legwork (other than by the attorneys who get their 25%), George Carlin was also “incorrect”

I’ve thrown down the glove; I can either “perform” or in the alternative be exposed as a “gasbag” unable to get the $10 million that I had promised.

To be sure, there are significant risks involved — most notably, another suspension of my “freeway-watching privileges” by the Day Ward Psychiatric Staff (as well as the suspension of those same privileges for Big Bob, my invisible friend)… but our safety forces can no longer remain underfunded

I wonder what LPD’s and LFD’s share of $10 million would be?

Depends on the formulae employed on how to divvy things up, correct?

Perhaps Big Bob can get to work on that/those formula/formulae right now.
