I haven’t had the strength of will to write this blog since November 11th. I use this place as therapy, as a way of documenting the rights and wrongs , the history of the place on the planet I find myself on any given day. There are over 60 categories and nearly 1,500 posts since I began in 2008. There are 59 draft posts in waiting….. but I am spent. It will take everything I have to write this post – not to do so would be “giving -up” in my world fraught with conflict.
I am not alone in the terrible place losing one’s son to cancer – watching hourly as life slipped away – the dying days – scared to sleep , scared to leave your son’s side just plain terrified of that day you know is coming when his strength gives out, fighting back those thoughts and ignoring your own eyes as you wait in the hope…. . Helpless as “so called” medical professionals in a teaching hospital used your son as a lab rat, the distancing from reality.
Then the terrible aftermath – the walking zombie like for days- your brain fighting against reality, not knowing how to function in the world you find yourself – your body trying to recover from the days of hopelessness, the anger toward those that in their selfishness and hypocrisy took away dignity, compassion in their need to control.
Pleased that you have more of your life behind you than in front of you – believing in your heart of hearts you will not survive for more than a few days the terrible gutting pain of grief- how could anyone bear this agony for any length of time ? Grief is a terminal disease of the heart and mind but with any chronic disease one finds ways to deal – some medicate, some use their faith as crutches, some choose counselling , some just exist and wait, some write……..
I have managed to get through your dying days for 5 years- the tricks of the grief trade coming to my aid when in public, the knowing where triggers lay, the avoidance of anyone or anything that can bring me crashing to my knees at any given moment . You deal with the grief of being, crippled , unsure still questioning. You survive the daily onslaught and live your life, not as imagined, but as it is.
Maybe it is because for the first time the days match up with the dates of your end of days– Chris. Starting with Nov 11th – the days leading up to that Thursday of Thanksgiving when a Dr. found me alone in the waiting room to tell me you were dying- the hope on the Friday as the nurse told me
she had no such information and she would have been informed- back to hope
– the dreadfully ignorant people who flocked into that waiting room with their recipes, food and cackle. Looking to your father for strength, he , who was as helpless as I . The knowing I couldn’t physically keep up the vigil I had been keeping by your bedside for the two weeks – the sound of the vent- they visit me waking and sleeping.
Has this change to the cycle added more to my pain and remembering? I do know this year is the hardest yet and unbearable resurgence of the pain of being. . Those first weeks there was the anesthetic of “disbelief” this was happening . , the hope that I would wake from the nightmare and an anger that kept me upright.
Could it be that this “real world” where religious beliefs, differing across the planet, causing more mothers to weep , the zealots crying out once more – “test their beliefs before we show kindness and compassion”
In a spell-binding speech before a crowd of French knights, Urban exhorted his adherents to win back “the land of milk and honey” and avenge the Turkish atrocities allegedly perpetrated against their fellow Christians. He cited several of the gory details sent to him by Alexius Comnenus and ended by bidding them fight “for the remission of your sins, with the assurance of imperishable glory.” No matter his actual words, “Kill Moslems indiscriminately!” is what the crowd understood him to say and chanted back Deus le vult! Deus le vult!” (“God wills it! God wills it!”)
four men armed with assault rifles and shouting “Allahu akbar” (“God is great!
““You’re a Christian – I mean, you can prove you’re a Christian,” he said. “You can’t prove it, then, you know, you err on the side of caution.”
Have these cries of intolerance, the platitudes spewed in the media and social media brought home the ignorance and hurt caused to your family by those that pray and prey.
Those who preach and ignore basic doctrine of human kind. Could it be it has played a part these many “end of days” .
What I do know is that for some reason I am “remembering ” hours and happenings that I had pushed into the deepest part of me, they are surfacing and with them the rawness of the time. Could it be I am more able to deal with these memories now, does my body and brain think I am stronger now- it is time for me to “deal” with them as they surface or is it that I am worn so thin in my defenses I can no longer hold them back?
Reaching out in the months after my son’s death, I found others of my ilk and I have borrowed words from one who articulates the grief from a place of knowing… a mother’s knowing …..
” the real horror of this “grief process”…It is not a process at all–it is a state of being; it only looms larger, more all consuming as time passes–not the reverse as we are led (told) to believe. The emptiness more glaring, the loneliness more overwhelming. Who could ever understand the way this nightmare grows and covers everything? Who could even admit this? “
I have only been able to write this post in stages, tears blur the keyboard and the screen , I can only hold my breath so long before the welling in my heart is unbearable and the body goes into “save mode” I need to gather strength from your sister and nephews in order to write. I need to see the laughter, the innocence and tangible love that remains…
I love you and miss you Chris with all my broken heart and body……..
I have covered three of the three examples of the process of Inspections, the Building Dept. and the process so far. These complaints have been filed and commented upon by serving “elected officials” not Joe Blow citizen but people whose job of work is to make their city and ward a better place.

How did all the Houses and Buildings get in such poor condition? As I said
when the Point of sale issue came before Council, We did not need more tools
in our toolbox, We just needed to use the tools we already had in the box.
You might be interested to know Mr. Lucente, although I support Point of Sale – https://thatwoman.wordpress.com/2013/07/05/the-nuisance-and-point-of-sale-ordinance-lorain/
these same thoughts were stated at a meeting of a start up of a “block watch” in 2005 ( 10 years ago) by Lorain County Prosecutors Office George Koury and previous Safety Service Director 1996-1999 – when asked about what laws could be passed because of the state of the buildings and homes in the 2nd Ward – He said:
There are ordinances already on the books – they just have to be enforced.
Note that was in the cafeteria room of the Old St. Joe’s Hospital and we know what is happening there today don’t we?
Ironically, at that meeting was Joe Smith who is also running for the position of 2nd Ward Councilman –
Ward Two is and has been the dumping ground, by banks, RSO’s – poor and substandard rentals and abandoned building as well a ghost town of commerce along Broadway.
It is a big job and so goes the 2nd ward so eventually goes the city!
Well, Councilman Lucente, this might give you an answer as this seems to be indicative of the tools in the box“
As mentioned in part three, Mr. Flores, often ,in his emails expressed frustration and concerns as to the timely manner of response by the Building Dept. to his notifications:
One such property 1761 HAMILTON AVE.
On January 25th 2013 _ two years ago Mr. Flores wrote in an email:
“It seems to me that a lot of the work I report falls on deaf-ears…
I’m requesting that a letter be sent notifying the property owner of this nuisance, vacant building.”

Since this blog did its own inspection this week February 9th 2015 – not much has changed, as you see , at the front- the shrubbery has grown in front of the windows and the rear of the property ????? – well more than a “don spout” needed here
JANUARY 2015– Click on jpg to enlarge
ONE YEAR AGO-2014
1/24/2014 Requested for rental inspection.
3/8/2014 Home is in foreclosure, not rental.
5/20/2014 Cited for high grass.
7/28/2014 Cited for high grass. (NOTE: high grass???? that is it??? will wonders ever cease!!!!)
I saw a note that it was cited on 3/9/2012 and it was sent to court on 3/20/2013. “NOTE” and what if any was the outcome of that ?????
Two years ago sent to court, and here we are TWO YEARS later – timely indeed- another time- another year passes
Is it any wonder why during a council meeting November 2013 discussing the housing in Lorain,Council at Large Dan Given stated:
I’m still going to spin this thing back; the way we’re doing it now is broken,” Given said. “Issuing citations to property owners now, we might as well be writing them on toilet paper.”
And yet 4 working days after the complaint by Kathy Dye the Building Dept was on the job ??? Might want to save some of that toilet paper as “it” hits the fan!!!!!
Once again to be continued……….
I have covered 2 of the three examples of the process of Inspections, the Building Dept. and the process so far. These two have been documented to death on this blog and others over the years and whose main complainants have been elected officials.
1965 E 28th Street– Mayor Krasienko -2008-2012 documented from 2008 –

His 2nd ward also happens to cover a great deal of the oldest housing and building stock in Lorain. He has been tireless over the years he has held office in reporting problem buildings, housing in his ward. I know this because, for the most part, when the issues are in this – Lorain’s oldest neighborhood- I get copied on the emails.
There is an ongoing tone of frustration in his emails as he has repeatedly asked for follow-up status on his complaints. I know “some” have gone through the process. What the status and success of out come of those and the length of time in the system I cannot document at the moment. I have asked the city administration for some answers- none forthcoming as of today. However, I can comment on at least one of the properties, as I was party to the email conversation at the time
113 Hamilton- In September (22nd- 2014) Mr. Flores wrote (edited)
Also there was a handicap ramp built so in a way to block-in a motor home and the vehicle still parking in front-lawn of house.
Please advise, what are the steps to get these issues resolved? Thank Dennis
The reason I have picked this one is it is an historically significant home. Charleston Village had also received many enquiries / complaints. Since the owner is elderly, has some disability and the home receives some tourist traffic, we tried to help.
2010 Home picture ( Dan Brady http://danielebrady.blogspot.com
We had cleaned and painted for the owner in October 2011
Home pictured October 2011 after clean -up
However, over the ensuring months, more issues developed – including an unhappy neighbor, who was turned down for rehab loan on their property due to the condition of this property. I said as much in a return email to those to whom Mr. Flores sent the complaint.
This is actually the home that was the birthplace of Admiral King. Charleston Village did help the owner clear, clean and paint the porch two years ago due to the dedication of the Admiral King Tribute Site. Unfortunately things have, as Dennis stated, deteriorated both with the wheel chair “fencing” and the conditions outside and inside the house . We have had complaints from property owners who have been turned down for financing due to the condition of this house , when they had been trying to rehab their property. FYI I sincerely hope something can be done to alleviate this situation as sad as these conditions are in and around our neighborhood what with other historic properties being neglected this one getting to this state is particularly sad………. Loraine Ritchey
I asked Mr. Flores last week to check and see if there had been a recent inspection report on this property and or follow-up and any paperwork since obviously the timely inspection of my property – 4 working days – seemed to set a bar.
Mr. Flores, double checked personally. There had been some paperwork before his complaint in September ( a building permit for the ramp) a citation in 2010 before we ( the volunteers of Charleston Village) cleaned up the property but it seems Mr. Flores complaint of September 22nd 2014 did not meet with the “speedy” response as did 1127, 4th Street. There wasn’t any paperwork forthcoming showing a follow-up from the Building Dept. officials
to be continued …………
We touched upon 1965 28th Street– where the duly elected Mayor of Lorain – Anthony Krasienko wanted the site cleaned up and or demolished – It is still there
Part Two – 3620 Clifton Avenue
this will find another elected official and the frustrations of his own. Councilman Eddie Edwards. This property 3620 Clifton AVE. has quite a history and was first written about on Bustershouse Blog : The blog was incredulous and in their post stated :
I am amazed that this house, which has been inspected and re-inspected by TPTB (and then some), was deemed worthy of a second chance. Sitting exposed to the elements for at least five years, sold for $200 to two guys who let it sit untouched for two more years (sale date January 2011) – it meant nothing to anybody until the city came knocking with the wrecking ball
see the photos of that post here
Bustershouse Blog followed up in June
This blog too, after attending the Demolition Appeals Board wrote about 3620 Clifton Ave.
The frustration of Mr. Edwards was apparent that day:
In that article, it was mentioned that the owners of one of the houses on the demolition list were given a second chance to make repairs. Even though it was noted by :
Demolition Board member, 5th ward Councilman, and neighborhood resident Eddie Edwards that “Before the sale, the house sat empty for about five years, with its doors and windows open and generally falling apart…” and “The new owners also waited a year before taking action to repair it…” AND the Board went out to see this house for themselves AND took the Fire Chief with them AND talked to the unhappy neighbors – the owners have $17,000 and a plan and that was enough for the Board to grant them a second chance
Conclusion : the flippers from Elyria , exactly 4 years ago, purchased a property without Point of Sale which so upset the Lorain County Board of Realtors.
and is still upsetting them , even if they aren’t quite accurate in their statements to the press
another nearly a decade on 3620 Clifton Avenue 5 years abandoned – 4 years in the INSPECTION PROCESS- 9 YEARS BY MY CALCULATIONS – the Flippers
Joseph Barbee and Nathaniel Johnson of Elyria also never paid the taxes roughly $218.00 per year and the tax bill as of today $1,088.48
( another worrying concern as delinquent taxes in the county according to the Lorain County Auditor when I spoke to him last week was in the amount of 34 million!
I emailed the city with regards to this property as to its status and it has been confirmed by Leon Mason (also a target of the Kathy (Cathy) Dye original email which I found extremely worrying and offensive from one who is a longtime member of the Lorain Design review Board.
Leon Mason – Director of Building, Housing and Planning
3620 Clifton, it was forwarded to the County Land Bank to begin the foreclosure process. As you may or may not know, the process for demo has changed since the original program, and the county must take possession of the properties.
Ironically this house was a forfeiture from the State of Ohio in the first place hmmmmm wonder if there had been a POS in place back then?
Well this process is still a work in progress on this one but I am still of the opinion it hasn’t worked!
Up next another “inspection in the hinterland”to be continued
Last Thursday I wrote a post on the continuing saga of 418 Broadway, Lorain Ohio https://thatwoman.wordpress.com/2015/01/08/the-dye-is-set-a-sign-of-trouble-lorain/ as the Morning Journal had run an article as to the building conditions and the “behavior” of the owner
In 2013 this blog brought to the attention of the readers issues happening in our deteriorating “downtown”. Although many people have been trying for years to change the blighted direction of what is known as the Broadway Corridor and more recently “the Waterfront District” the rot, literally, of the buildings has continued. My question in my last post as to the further deterioration of 418 was to the “powers that be”
WHY, if complaints had been made over the many months and years as to the issues with this poster child of a building, did it take so long for the process to start?
It is no secret there were issues with that building and they could be “seen ” from even a cursory sidewalk inspection.
Why didn’t our inspectors, Building Dept. act? Why didn’t the acting head of Community Development ( Rey Carrion – no longer with the city) at the time follow through as to the “signage” situation of that building?
Yesterday, I received a copy of an email sent to “Leon Mason, Director
Department of Building, Housing and Planning- City Of Lorain”. I was sent a copy of the email because, as you will read, I am pretty much the focus of the ire.
The email in question was sent by Kathy Dye, mother of the owner of the 418 Broadway. Ms. Dye is a long-time member of the Design Review Board in Lorain http://www.cityoflorain.org/economic_community_development/agendas
and herself a business owner on Broadway- Dyes Appliances- 960 Broadway
Kathy Dye is no stranger to this blog and in 2013 had her say as to my thoughts etc. which I duly posted and answered to her “all caps rant” and innuendo , name calling and her promise “WHILE YOU TAKE THIS RUN DOWN BROADWAY I’M GOING TO ALL OF YOUR HOMES.”
The situation with 418 Broadway and the owners ‘trouble” has once again surfaced this week
and I duly wrote about it. The effect of the recent news had another email from Kathy Dye- I have highlighted the words I find troubling from Ms Dye

Getting pretty sick and tired of Loraine Ritchie running this city with her complaints.
#1 if you and the mayor are going to harrass people you should look at everybody, not just a few chosen people. I can be a bigger bitch than Loraine Ritchie. I know of several things if I spill the beans will cause a huge uproar in this city as well as a large number of law suits. I was previously asked to keep my mouth shut about all of it but my patience is running thin. Just to also let you know the information I know has nothing to do with any previous city employees.
#2, Loraine Ritchie has a lot of “ordinance issues” on the outside of her property, what about the inside?
#3 Loraine Ritchie keeps saying that my son did not get approval for his Kharisma sign. Well when he came before the board, before you came aboard, We gave him a conditional approval if the sign fit the sign board. Well it fit and we sent pictures to Dave Gulden as we were told. Then the uproar came and community development was dissolved and Dave damaged his files, not our fault. So I sent pictures again to Rey Carrion. Whatever happened to them I do not know. So here we still are seeing Loraine running her flapping mouth that the sign was hung illegally and that he was told to remove it. Well that is not the case and I want a letter sent for the approval now. The Building Department was notified months ago that we were still waiting for it.
#4 I understand the mayor is planning to run again. Well after I start sending out my series of letters to all the tv stations, radio stations and newspapers I don’t think it will help his campaign. The ball is now in your hands. If things don’t straighten up immediately with my son and his building the letters will begin next week.
#5 Also I have a question, why did the ex-mayor and your father back in their day refuse to take the mast from Admiral King’s boat that sank and make a memorial here in Lorain?
Remember this is a sitting member of Lorain’s Design Review Board- one has to ask WHY? is she- who wishes to hold hostage a process for which she supposedly “sits” for deny due diligence of that process a member of such a board? There is something wrong with that scenario
I want to address Kathy Dyes comments :
I will skip for the moment to No. 2.
I am unaware of any ordinance issues on the outside of my property and when the homes etc. on 4th street were inspected last year we were not cited for any issues. As for the inside of my home – well I can guarantee not one alligator or unusual pets just Shadow
Kathy is more than welcome along with any one else to come on in- just call first so I am not in my pajamas. In fact, they have done so twice when this house was on tour for two different homes tours for fundraising.
A childish “tit for tat” methinks!
Let us address No 3 the dreaded signage . Kathy needs to read the post from the PRESIDENT of the Design Review Board and the explanation – it has been stated clearly enough on this blog – twice-
CITYWIDE DESIGN REVIEW GUIDELINES
The board has NOT approved the signage for 418 Broadway as we were not presented with the required submission documentation.
The signage was reviewed and there were conditions that had to be met by Mr. Dye to receive approval. The board has not received the information required for conditional approval. The signage was installed illegally
Now down to the rather strange question to Leon Mason with regard to his father , who at one time was Community Development Director for a few months. No 5
” #5 Also I have a question, why did the ex-mayor and your father back in their day refuse to take the mast from Admiral King’s boat that sank and make a memorial here in Lorain?”
I am not sure what this has to do with anything except her possible use of an innuendo – the lack of thinking and knowledge” leads me to wonder as to “lack of reason”. But that being said let me “educate Ms. Dye on the “history” –
refuse to take the mast from Admiral Kings boat that sunk…
Sorry Ms Dye, you have the wrong end of the mast….. Admiral King’s boat didn’t sink, it was the bombing by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor which caused the sinking of the USS Arizona.
” The battleship USS Arizona (BB 39) was sunk at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The superstructure above the waterline was removed soon after the attack. Admiral Earnest H. King, Chief of Naval operations, sent the signal mast to his hometown of Lorain, Ohio. Commander Edwin C. Keyes, a close friend of Adm. King commanded that naval armory in Lorain. https://thatwoman.wordpress.com/2012/12/10/and-lorain-said-no-admiral-king-lorain-ohio/
AND Ms Dye there were three mayors involved over a decade when the signal mast was an issue. If you are going to cast veiled aspersions I would suggest you get your facts straight first.!!!!
As petty , erroneous and spiteful the above are, it is in my opinion nothing to what Ms. Dye threatens ( and to me there is no other word for it for me) and tries intimidation of one government official and also the duly elected Mayor of the City of Lorain –
IF the Director of Department of Building, Housing and Planning for the City of Lorain does NOT “straighten up” immediately with my son and his building” letters will be sent to the media which will apparently according to her that will cause adverse publicity to the Mayor’s campaign ( Mr. Mason’s boss”)
What those letters contain can only be guessed at with her initial statement “I can be a bigger bitch than Loraine Ritchie. I know of several things if I spill the beans will cause a huge uproar in this city as well as a large number of law suits. I was previously asked to keep my mouth shut about all of it but my patience is running thin.
I understand the mayor is planning to run again. Well after I start sending out my series of letters to all the tv stations, radio stations and newspapers I don’t think it will help his campaign. The ball is now in your hands. If things don’t straighten up immediately with my son and his building the letters will begin next week.
I find Ms. Dye’s behavior insulting , provocative in the extreme and from board member of the “supposed” unbiased Design Review Board most worrying.
HER son is charged with according to the Morning Journal reporting
“unsafe connections to gas supply lines and rubber hoses being used for natural gas” in the building, according to the police report.
The building’s last natural gas connection ended July 7, 2008, according to the Columbia Gas report. One gas meter in the building showed the building had gas usage totaling $14,469 from August 2010, when Dye took possession of the building, to November last year, according to the report.
It is my interpretation – MS DYE, is stating unless the City of Lorain Director of Building and Planning doesn’t intercede and give “sonny” the all clear then she will send out letters containing “what” ??????knowledge of wrongful doings with the City of Lorain enough to cause lawsuits??? -( What a responsible citizen ( that is sarcasm for those in doubt) ! Hopefully, who ever receives these Diatribes of Dye will fact check because her “record” of getting the facts straight even in this last email is nought for 5!
However, I think I have the answer to my question as to why it takes so long for things to happen in this city, with people like Ms Dye “on board” the City of Lorain had better cross all its T’s and dot its i’s otherwise who knows what vicious, vindictive behaviors will come about.
And to those who wonder why I have retired from “downtown” see above….. However, I have not retired from the truth …… Shhhh listen carefully is that sound you hear the falling of another building on Broadway, the “termagant” of Broadway( aka Ms Dye) or perhaps the power of politics in its death throes ????????
Since I cannot bring myself to use the visuals of what is still happening in Syria and Iraq – I have chosen Mark’s photo as yet another wave breaks upon our shore.
NOTE: We are now at the 13th Anniversary of September 11th – and still we are in fear and loathing of those that try to strike terror in the hearts of ordinary folk. Beheadings, torture, rapes and whole societies wiped out and today- September 11th we remember the day the terror came home to the USA! I wrote the following on the 10th anniversary, reprising once again as we take yet another step in the horror which the world of fanatical religions dictating our lives.
10 years it is unbelievable to me a decade has passed – the sights and sounds of that day so vivid still- an act which will send the perpetrators to perdition.
Normally I would write an updated remembrance but I am in my own kind of man-made purgatory at the moment so I choose to remember as I did last year (below) . I also remember 9-11-09 …. the day of hope as Chris took his first infusion of SGN 35…… that September 11th dawning with hope just as years before a glorious September morn saw hope crashing to the earth…… the outcome was the same “grief and loss”………..a time to remember those that continue to give their lives ………………………….
‘Kind” -having or showing a tender and considerate and helpful nature
There was no “kindness” in the nature of that September day as terror flew into the everyday working lives of those who experienced the dreadful destruction of September 11th 2001
They say you remember where you were and what you were doing until you die certain events-
And September 11th 2001.
ED NOTE:The linked video is from ordinary citizens with a view of the destruction- released 5 years after that September 11th day
I was sitting on the couch that morning, having my first cup of tea- my son- in -law to be called
“We are being attacked”
Knowing his penchant for practical jokes and phone calls I said
yeah yeah right- tell me more”
Just then my daughter came down the stairs with the phone in her hand , hair dripping wet –
Mum he is right a plane just flew into a building in New York – turn on the television.
Another call beeped in it was my mum
“Oh there has been a terrible accident a plane has flown into a skyscraper”
Just as she said that Tony ( my cousin who was over for a trip ) is heard in the back ground
“Bloody Hell there is another one.”
We all went silent, incredulous watching as devastation rained down from the sky on a beautiful September morning.
I called my son- he told me that they were being evacuated from the college and told to return home- there was something going on in Cleveland , as he was heading to his campus apartment there were agents and militia armed with weapons in and around the streets- it was very tense. They were told to stay inside.
That day had a profound effect on this nation – I remember for the next two mornings- as I watered the garden not a sound from the sky , no roaring of the high-speed boats out on the lake- traffic was almost non existent- the sound of a siren sent chills- flags appeared outside the houses and on the streets – as if a patriotic garden bloomed from the carnage.
We did not move from the television- we watched as if from another planet the “human” story unfold that day. We hardly knew how to express our thoughts -the ugliness of hatred brought home -engulfing and billowing out as the towers and civilization fell in the name of “Jihad”.
As for those that carried out these attacks there are no adequate words of condemnation. Their barbarism will stand as their shame for all eternity.
–British Prime Minister Tony Blair
My son used his talents , he did a series of posters – that I have yet to find since his passing. It was after that day my son wore his patriotism proudly – always one to fly the flag ( more on that at the closure of this blog) he defended her the way he knew best through his work.
Yes , I am remembering Septembers and they are tinged with pride , lack of understanding , helplessness and prejudice against those that cause pain to the human heart and condition ………
and all who weep including the willow WE REMEMBER SEPT 11TH IN OUR OWN WAY!
ATTENTION! Fellow taxpayer, you who are busy trying to earn a few sheckles in this rust belt of an economy , you who did your civic duty and voted in Judges and Commissioners and trusted them to “do due diligence” to the task appointed by your vote. We are seeing our hard-earned money spent on “attorneys” because the Judicial System and the ( County) Executive Branch cannot communicate.
The Court of Common Pleas, the only trial court created by the Ohio Constitution, is established by Article IV, Section 1, of the Constitution, and its duties are outlined in Article IV, Section 4.
Missing: mission statement
with the Administrative ( Executive Branch) Lorain County Board of Commissioners ( whose mission statement also couldn’t be found as it kept coming up “error”.)
Not a good sign fellow taxpayers… Mission Impossible...
So let us see how this works- we are of course seeing our money go out of the county to Cuyahoga and to Subodh Chandra- Chandra has benefitted from the Lorain City and Lorain County squabbles big time-
We ,the taxpayers, have poured money into his pockets. The Commissioners helped Mark Stewart to get the situation out of common sense and into to Chandra CENTS.
But hey! Chandra persevered and finally The city of Lorain caved. Of course the poor old city taxpayers were hamstrung you see our Cuyahoga attorney Anthony Calabrese was involved in another aspect of the judicial system.
Calabrese’s former law firm, Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease agreed to pay a $3 million settlement to the city of Lorain, which had employed Calabrese and the firm during the years of corrupt activity. The Lorain City Council on Monday approved the deal, contained in a 10-page ordinance titled “settlement and mutual release agreement.”
The agreement “will be a great benefit to the city,” the ordinance read, “and the delay of lengthy litigation resolved amicably without delay to the benefit of the city of Lorain.”The $3 million will be made in two equal payments due Dec. 20 and Jan. 10, according to terms of the settlement.
We did get some of our money back with a settlement ( figured out by other attorneys and paying them a fee) so all was not lost – just reputations smeared, spin, hard feelings and confusion still reigns as to the CRA.
But Chandra is on course for the race to who will give in first. His methodology is quite simple –
One he uses his contacts in the Plain Dealer and Cleveland news outlets to tell the tale- https://thatwoman.wordpress.com/2008/03/17/hear-ye-hear-ye-all-rise-the-right-hon-public-opinion-presiding/
The headlines cause shock and awe – he then will use those same slanted until they tip over ” news” stories as part of his arguments in court.
That is what he does, and it has started – in fact the TAXPAYER is taken to task in the first volley found here:
Lorain County’s worst public building is no place for probation officers: “Hey, Taxpayer!” with Mark Naymik
I was unable to access parts of the building documented by a photographer hired by Chandra.
and to further add insult to injury
It’s hard to believe spending a quarter of million dollars will produce a cost-effective, long-term solution in a building that needs so much. Taxpayers deserve a better option.
errr excuse me Mark – we, the taxpayer, aren’t given any options – we just cough up the money and choke…… and according to Channel 3 we, the taxpayer, keep a filthy house, errrrrr last time I looked we paid for maintenance and janitors- what happened??? But great spin Chandra we got our monies worth on that one!
The county house of filth
Two – Chandra , apart from the media relations– will bombard the opposite number with huge paperwork requests ( all costed out to the case) Take note this time around county officials
“Because the county too- seemingly only keep records of monies paid to Chandra and Co- not the driving to and from meetings ( although Chandra does – he counts it in his invoices to us -the taxpayer- ( through the real estate account in the County coffers- He counts his hours and what it costs for him and what it cost for his assistant.) but apparently county government doesn’t. So I guess to get a true accounting of what it is costing I should ask Chandra he may have a better idea”
Now fellow combatants, since we will be paying for Cha- Ching Chandra and the opposing counsel, one would only hope the Commissioners find an attorney ( not of the character of Calabrese)
http://amlawdaily.typepad.com/amlawdaily/2011/09/arntsen-calabrese.html who can take on Chandra.
OH! OH! WHAT AM I THINKING- WE ARE PAYING FOR HIM/HER TOO!
Therefore , if that law firm is any good this could go well past a million dollar mark, wonder if they have media contacts they can use. Maybe the taxpayer could sell tickets to this Comedy of Errors and recoup some of the money spent by our “employees“.
So , the upshot is no matter how this turns out – we the taxpayer lose and the only thing we can do is remember how much those that started the Chandra Ball rolling as they fired the first “legal” salvo and spent the first dime of our money – at election time –
THEY SPENT NOT WISELY BUT TOO WELL!!!!!!
NOTE: And whilst I am telling it to the Judge- Please judges – try to refrain from those probation sentences , help ease the workload for the probation department and maybe I wouldn’t have 82 in my neighborhood and 270 in the county!
