George Schneider recently made the MJ for the condition of the former Jay Metals building.

A Lorain property owner will have some more time to work on a dilapidated building on East 28th Street.

George Schneider, owner of the former Jay Metals building, 1965 E. 28th St., was supposed to be sentenced yesterday for a property maintenance code violation and to monitor the progress of repairs, according to Lorain Municipal Court records. His case was continued to Oct. 31, said Judge Mark Mihok……….

The former Jay Metals building is on the list of 12 properties that Mayor Anthony Krasienko wants demolished as soon as possible.

Mr. Schneider has made news here a few times (here http://www.locophotogblog.com/?p=185 and here http://www.locophotogblog.com/?p=187 ) in the past for some of his residential properties. Considering his rep with those in the know and those that have seen some of his properties, I decided to randomly pull some addresses from his long list of real estate holdings, and see what I get. So, let’s get at it!

Porch, porch roof, siding, lawn, paint job on the porch. This is 206 W. 17th. Bought at the end of March 2007. Not a good start, huh?

AND HERE HAVE WERE HAVE 206- W 17TH STREET 4 YEARS LATER! 9-9-2012

Not much has changed- slap some paint over the falling down porch- a couple of pieces of siding at the top and a new porch roof on the rotting porch- probably because George hasn’t replaced the gutter to nowhere (except to the porch floor) the same buckling siding on the side .

Now here comes the interesting house – you see at the time in the comments section Mark was taken to task by BigRed @aol.com calling him a fool and ranted – you can find the comments here –

Garage, siding, porch roof and gutter, and porch. It’s not getting better, is it? This was taken a month after he bought it, but the ‘For Sale’ sign is still on the porch?

Here we go BIG RED- 4 years on – plenty of time you would think for George Schneider to make those changes to upgrade what the crack heads had done- and whilst we are on the subject just who is renting to these dealers of drugs – take a look here

but it seems he couldn’t even take the For Sale sign down.He did manage to close the garage door – but then again it probably just fell in upon itself by the look of it and what is it with George and unattached gutters?

Mr. Big Red who is the fool? – well we are the taxpayers of Lorain who have put up with this nonsense for far too long!

I was rather impressed, if you will, with this one. Couldn’t get a good look at the siding for the bushes, but the house looks to be in pretty good shape. Except for the yard needing a little picking up, which isn’t his fault, this one passes muster.

4 Years Later TA DA! we have a winner !!! finally this little house looked very nice from the outside all pale blue siding- since there was someone on the porch enjoying a Sunday morning we forwent the taking of a photo but this house does indeed look very nice. Score one for George!

911 W. 22nd St. Porch is boarded up, window boarded, hole in upstairs window, railing on stairs is broken, gutter needs help, doorway looks like it took a beating and the basement window looks like it’s open/broken. George has had this one since June of 1993.

So what has changed 4 years on with 911 W 22nd Street- This is one George has owned for 19 years apparently

Not much has changed – it is still boarded up- although someone has a play set, the broken gutter has been straightened and lovely flowers are growing from the top guttering, note that improvement seems to have been negated by the loss of the porch railing and fascia and the loss of the ( albeit used to be wobbly crooked)hand rail for those very expensive looking front steps!

Now Back to October 2008 and Mark’s Lorain County Photographers Blog

Mr. Schneider owns, as of this morning, according to the Auditor’s website, 37 properties, all of which appear to be in Lorain. I have another picture that I’m 99% sure is correct, but it does not jive with the picture on the Auditor’s site, so I held it back.

So, in today’s FISI, Mr. Schneider is batting .250. In baseball, that’s not exactly great. In real estate, considering that there are neighbors all around, that’s poor. He’s not just hurting himself, he’s hurting the resale value of those homeowners around him. And it hurts the City

Now Big Red in the comments section finally ended his diatribe against Mark’s post with

“THE POINT IS ‘OPINIONS ARE LIKE THE BACKSIDE YOU SIT ON, EVERYONE HAS ONE…SO BECAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY AND HOW YOU SAY IT…BECAUSE ONCE YOU SAY IT, YOU CAN’T TAKE IT BACK’”

I agree Big Red – how did that opinion on the 511 W 18th Street work out for you… Or maybe George just needs TIME! 😉

    I think what Mr Schneider would like to call “crack head vandals” is really just a case of piss-poor slum lord. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Mr Schneider needs to be legally stopped from purchasing houses in Lorain (or anywhere). Period. THEN, make him live in each one, whether there are renters or not, and stay there until they’re fixed up, and he can move into the next one.

    The City of Lorain needs to have a sit-down with Judge Ray Pianka of Cleveland, and get some tips. Because whatever Lorain is doing is failing miserably.

    It was a really interesting morning Mark, driving around these neighborhoods looking at the homes and there were some really lovely homes , like little oasis of civilization in and amongst this lot .

    Actually I have another of your Fame it and Shame it homes by George 😉 that I will be putting up in another post. I seemingly could write a “George Magazine” – oh wait that was done …….

    well done!!!…but these homes are nothin new to me…just didnt know who owned them….and i guess if they (george and his good fellows) r not going to be accountable…i guess it does not matter who owns them. Time will tell…but time has run out along time ago in my opinion. ugh!!!!

    I really don’t understand what exactly it is that you are shooting for? The one house you say passes muster has a red car parked right on the sidewalk in the front yard, no driveway to speak of, so the bushes are a problem, but the car in the middle of the front yard isn’t?

    The missing outside corner posts for the vinyl siding that was installed over the fake brick is OK also? This property is a perfect example of what a fuctionally obsolete property looks like. Not only does this property lack a garage to keep a car in, it’s missing the whole damn driveway!

    Who is going to rent a house like the one that this blog says passes in that neighborhood? Someone stupid enough to park their car in the front yard or someone that doesn’t own a car which means they are more than likely not to have a job. This neighborhood isn’t in an area where there are many jobs within walking distance.

    Same thing with the big blue house. I bet that house has at least four bedrooms that can house a ton of kids, but where is the driveway? Who would live in this house even if it was fixed up?

    Brian we were showing the then and now – the then from Marks Blog 2008 and the NOW as of yesterday morning

    I just picked out a couple of the obvious problems from the road – too many pictures to post on these properties..

    I said people need to do more than scan these posts….

    ….the one that “passed muster” was written about 4 YEARS AGO by Mark – that text was from 4 years ago…..

    we Lisa and I followed up to see what had happened to that house after 4 years yesterday morning and if you read we didn’t take a picture of it because a lady was on her porch and we respected her privacy .but the house looked good – completely sided in blue and tidy …..the only one actually that had a positive difference

    However the other houses were pictures as they were then on Marks blog and as they appear today including what has happened to the old Jay metal in the 8 years that George has owned it..

    I wonder if any of the 169 plus houses have Section 8 renters in them? If they do and they don’t meet the federal requirements, then George can be cited by LMHA. A call to the Housing Authority to find out if George is getting tax payer dollars for this mess would be an interesting phone call and research story. Maybe he isn’t, but then again…..hmmm

    I would imagine that if George has LMHA renters those would probably be the properties ( maybe like the little now blue sided house – not photographed) that looks good. I would think those without section 8 are the ones that are in such bad shape……

    I am not sure if that is public record maybe to see what properties he has that are listed with section 8 and do a back track 🙂 will see what I can find out.

    i had called the Mayors office today..311 w 10th…new person/s now living there…lots of frig’s in the front yard..hidden behind a row of trucks…louise sent ralph cantu out there today..and gave him a week to clean it up…mind you it is not legal to have a frig outside with door attached..there are multiples out…i guess he owns a store on 22nd broadway..and has decided to use his dwelling for an additional business…nope..not on my watch…from drugs to refrigerators….good grief..! Quick response from Louise Kibane…it is very much apprecitated….i’ll keep my eye out…(can you imagine if someone set up shop installing car stereos…i’d loose my mind!! lol…:).

    See – the girls are takin’ care of business! More female inspectors! 😉 311 W 10th looks nice on the auditors site, why do I have a feeling that’s not what I’m going to find when I go by there? Yoy. That makes two tenants on that stretch of 10th now, right?
